Bommarillu-Indian movie

Hey Everyone! this one is my second movie project. 2006 released, a hit movie from India. Though I don't speak the language (I am not sure if it's Tamil or Telugu) I have still tried my best. The movie is more inclined towards melodrama and romance unlike my first movie project Hot Young Bloods. I am not Going to write a movie review but an introduction for this one. So let's get started....

Introduction

Picture this in your mind a serene beach, a young father and his toddler son. Father is teaching his son how to walk on a beach. Beautiful isn't it?

But this is the beginning of problems between a father & son's relationship. The son who wants to learn walking on his own & the father who fears that his son might fall on his own, thus is not ready to leave his son's hand. Though both of them are not wrong, it's hard to say who is more right. But what if a father is not ready to leave his 24 years old son's hand? This is the story of an overprotective father and his closet rebel son......

Recap:

The movie begins with a guy (Sidharth AKA Sidhu) walking on a fly-over with a back pack, cursing all the fathers in this world. lost in his cussing he almost gets into an accident with a guy on scooter. When the scooter guy asks Sidhu what's his problem, he replies his father because his father does not give him what he wants in life but gives him more than he wants. The scooter guy calls him nuts since the problem he just stated is a privilege in common people's world. He says scooter guy must be a dad thus he won't be able to understand this problem. If he wants to know more he should go and ask the young people. He recalls how his father has always pushed his own choices in clothes, hairstyles etc. on him.

The overbearing father even decides the hair style for his son....tch tch

He tells various strangers, whom he encounters on his way, how his father's actions towards him are always exaggerated. when he asked for a pencil his father gave him a branded pen, when he asked for a bicycle his father gave him a bike and when he asked for jaggery his father gave him imported chocolates. His father does what he wants to do at the expense of his son's choices. when a random lady (Sidhu is riding on the back of her scooty) asks him if there is any thing in particular that he wants, he says that there are two wishes in his life, that he will never forego. So, the lady asks he should be happy then but Sidhu says that now he has more problems all because of his father and restarts cussing the fathers in this world.

The movie goes back in flashback. Sidhu is woken up by Sathi (his family's servant)'s words that Arvind (Sidhu's father) is already up. Sathi, who is scared of Sidhu's sister, complains to Sidhu about her, who is an aspiring beautician. she not only forces her beauty treatments on him, using him as an experiment model, but also charges him for each and every treatment thus making penniless every month. Sidhu solves the problem by paying for his next facial. Sidhu's elder brother and his family also live together with him, his elder and younger sister and their parents. His elder sister is always talking to her husband, who is currently working in abroad, over the phone. His mother who only has two hobbies in life, cooking and singing. His Brother who lives as a puppet, doing only what he is told by his father. On the breakfast table Arvind, Sidhu's father, tells Sidhu that since it was the last day of the six months time period, he had earlier asked for, he should be all set to join his family business. Sidhu hesitantly asks for an extension of three more months stating that he is currently pursuing CAD course post that he can join. his father gives him an okay but in return wants his one week. Sathi informs Sidhu that Arvind is looking for a girl for him to marry.

A frustrated Sidhu meets his friends, who are all happily married to the love of their lives. His friends jokes around about the lack of feminine touch in his life. He sternly restates that in his life there are two things he absolutely refuses to compromise first his career, he does not wish to be a proxy worker like his brother and second his marriage. he wants to marry the girl he likes, not some girl his father finds for him. For his professional life, He and his friends are in the middle of arranging a loan to start up their own business. Sidhu is confident that its going to take an year for his overly picky father to choose a girl for him and in this time period if he manages to find his dream girl then things could work out. Though so far he has failed to find any girl that he could like but he is still hopeful. But within a week all his hopes are crashed, when his mother shows him the picture of a girl whom his father has selected. Sidhu panics and asks that it's been just a week since they discussed marriage. Arvind informs him though they told him a week ago about this topic but they have been searching for the past six months and after careful consideration have zeroed in this girl, Lakshmi.

*In India arrange marriage is quite a common practice. Just like online dating sites, there are online matrimonial sites and other conventional means through which a suitable partner is searched for.

Sidhu's friends tries to persuade Arvind to reconsider about his decision but he retorts back with questions like: if  Sidhu loves any other girl or if there is any other issue he should be aware of . they deny and Arvind simply states that there is no reason to refuse such a good alliance (marriage between Sidhu & Lakshmi) After rendering Sidhu & his friends speechless, he then asks them to be frank with him, treat him as their friend. Next day, Sidhu and his family along with his friends visit Lakshmi's home. after seeing Lakshmi who is quite pretty, one of his friend asks him to not over-think things and just go with the flow now while his other friend tells him that his father is really a unique character. he shows his son only one finger and then asks him to choose.

Just like his Dad asking him to choose while showing him only one finger!!

After meeting Lakshmi alone, Sidhu realizes she is a through and though daddy's girl, bringing her dad's name in every sentence and therefore is not a right girl for him but before he can speak out  his impression of her. Arvind and Lakshmi's father had already finalize their alliance taking their (Sidhu's and lakshmi's) silence as agreement. In this way a very confused, completely lost and to some degree hesitant Sidhu gets engaged with Lakshmi in the presence of both the families.

He takes out his frustration at night by going on a boozing spree with his friends. He laments about his current predicament, his complete incompatibility with Lakshmi and his so called "good guy" image when in fact he is a self acclaimed rogue. His friends drop him off at his home where Arvind asks him a few questions but as always doesn't wait for Sidhu to answer them and comes up on a conclusion on his own.

  1. Boomarilu is a famous Telugu movie. I watched the Tamil re-make of it which is called Santhosh Subramanium. In both movies, the main actress is the same. Though the Siddarth is a Tamil guy, he didn't get to act in the Tamil version. It was the same case with his other Telugu movies that were later re-made in other languages. The main actress will be the same in both languages, but he will be replaced. I'm glad Siddarth is getting more fame and attention in Tamil cineama, now. I'm so glad that someone who translates Chinese novels, have at least watched a South Indian movies. Most people I know, have watched mainly Bollywood movies. I really love the movie's songs.
