Chapter 24.2

Friendly Jiang Li (2)

Jiang Li pressed harder and harder: “Xiao Guan Yan, you must admit that you really are good for nothing. After being cheated by the other person, you can only dare to hide yourself. Desperately wanted to forget him and even when you couldn’t forget him you could only pretend that you have. Stroking his chin Jiang Li thought for a moment then nodded his head, said: “That’s right, that Ex of yours does not look like a simple man. Considering your intelligence, you are indeed no opponent for him.”

Hey!!!!

Abruptly Jiang Li patted my shoulder and said: “Don’t worry. I will help you.”

Unconvinced, I rolled my eyes: “Why are you being this kind?”


“I am certainly not being kind.” Jiang Li shook his head while the corners of his mouth lifted up “As I have some conditions.”

I did not find his words unexpected: “Well, go on.”

Jiang Li: “You will have to help me in washing my clothes.”

I clenched my teeth and nodded.

Jiang Li: “And when I return back from socializing you have to prepare supper and soup for me.”

Re-clenching my teeth I nodded my head in acquiesce.

“And..”

I was not able to restrain my anger this time, I snapped: “Aren’t you done with your conditions yet?”

“Go to bed early. Women who stay up late at night are appalling.”

Jiang Li: “If you want to hold your head up in front of your ex then as long as you do this one thing it would suffice. You must make him believe that you have forgotten him already and that you are doing really well now.”

Me: “I truly have forgotten him already.”

Jiang Li: “I mean that now in your eyes he should be like any other passerby. When you see him, raise your head high as if you are looking at a stray cat.”

A stray cat……it was somewhat hard to imagine…..

*originally the word used by the author was pedo…. But I found it too strong so I took the liberty to change it to molester.


I wiped seat from my forehead: “Is it alright to think like that..?”

Jiang Li: “Do not, at any cost, be polite with him otherwise he would think that you still remember him and haven’t forgotten him completely.  Whether he likes it or not, you just finish it off neatly so that there is no nuisance later.”

I looked at his countenance, full of confidence. I suddenly felt that he truly did not find the words he spoke just now much.

Jiang Li was steering the conversation. Without observing my expressions, he was still being the same. Unhesitatingly he continued: “Beyond that, you have to show him that you have a very good relationship with me. Make him open his eyes and see that there are people who really want and cherish the Xiao Guan Yan whom he had so cruelly rejected.”

Me……

Jiang Li, if once you don’t diss me then you won’t die!!!!!

Jiang Li: “When he will realize that you are happier than he had imagined, even happier than him then he may not like it. And it’s a possibility that he will try to find some opportunities to seduce you. At that time you have to refrain. This guy’s only plus point is his handsome face though I don’t find it too appealing. So if you want to see a good looking face then come and find me. My……sweat was pouring down in torrent.

Perhaps feeling that something was not right Jiang Li added: “Of course I won’t force you to do all this.”

In order to avoid getting a nervous breakdown, I simply shut my eyes close and mounted myself on a seat. Playing deaf and mute.

I noticed that lately Jiang Li was becoming very talkative but I was not sure about what was stimulating it.

At this time I was sitting with Jiang Li in his car. Jiang Li dropping me off to my office in the morning, originally there was no such plan but I presumed that after seeing how dedicatedly I washed and cleaned his clothes, he decided to give me a ride. On the way I thought I really did not care about his reason after all who did not like a free ride? While I was still busy thinking Jiang Li drove me to the main entrance of the building. It was already eight fifty-five, was he not afraid of being tardy?

So I benevolently asked him: “Aren’t you getting late?”

Jiang Li indifferently answered: “When I am not worried then why are you worried about it.”

What nonsense!!!

Just when I thought that Jiang Li was getting a little friendlier, his one sentence thoroughly extinguished my idea.

Friendly, what a joke. He was a freak, sneaky, smelly person…….a molester. @#$%@

Chapter 22.3

I got home, wearingly leaned on the couch. At this time I felt as if the entire energy of my body had been siphoned off.

Why did I encounter him again, the world is so vast then why did we still end up meeting? I did not want to see him ever again in my life then why did fate force us to come face to face once more? I obviously had forgotten him then how come, when I saw him in the office today, my mind drew a complete blank?

Why did he call me “Yan Yan.” Exactly what right did he have?

 I felt a little cold; autumn had come that’s why the weather had turned chilly. I looked on the floor, on the autumn sunshine spread over the living room carpet. I could vaguely remember, under the beautiful autumn sunshine he was standing, tall and erect. Smiling, he called: “Yan Yan.”

But now, what right did he have?

All of a sudden I felt extremely lethargic, perhaps. Whether I was feeling too tired or just too sleepy, I was not sure.

I simply lay down on the couch and soon fell into a deep slumber.

......…Drowsily, I heard someone opened the door and then shut it, followed by the sound of footsteps coming closer. At this point of time, I had already woken up but I did not open my eyes. I did not want to get up from the couch.

Jiang Li approached me and whispered: “This fool.”

I ignored him and continued to snooze on the couch. Ah, good dreams. In the dreams I would not have to face the messy reality of my life.

Then, suddenly I felt a bit of a weight on my body. Turned out Jiang li displaying a rare act of kindness had covered my body with his jacket.

Rubbing my eyes I sat up. Seeing him still standing in front of the couch, I slowly muttered: “Oh, you are back.”

Jiang Li saw that I was up so he immediately started yelling at me angrily: “do you know what you have done? Without intimating me you left your office early. Moreover you did not even pick your phone, causing me to take a useless round trip to your office.”

I looked down “Oh” in a very small voice said: “I am sorry.”

My attitude must have really shocked Jiang Li. So he forgot about rebuking me and instead bent down. He lifted my face and carefully observed it for a minute. Surprised, he said: “Why are you looking so dull and lifeless?”

I dismissively turned my head away and said: “It’s none of your business.”

Jiang Li stood up. He folded his arms, saying: “Then I should ask something that is my business, have you cooked dinner for me?”

I shook my head; after all I just woke up. Jiang Li frowned and furiously said:  “Xiao Guan Yan, you are really too much.”

I was about to open my mouth to say something when unexpectedly the ‘rivers’ of the tears started flowing out and I could not hold them in.

FLASH MARRIAGE-21.2

Aloha everyone... At the end of this chapter you will get to see a very new and deeper side of Xiao Yan's old woman. While translating this chapter I could not help but miss my own mom. I also have a very unique and special bond with my mom like Xiao Yan. My mom is my loyal confidante, strongest critic and best friend. Many at times I just need to listen her say rhetorical words like everything will be alright and boom...I  immediately start feeling lighter. She is just that magical.....I don't even have the luxury to go and hug her right now since we are thousands of miles apart. Can't visit her before February (Hopefully will be able to go back home for vacations then)....Really MissinG You A lot Mommy  :(

Chapter 21.2

Wang Kai Vs Jiang Li (2)

The phrase “X incompetent” completely angered Jiang Li who was standing behind me; he pushed me away and sat down in front of my laptop, then quietly typed: “I am her X incompetent husband.”

This sentence sounded a bit familiar…..

From the other end, Wang Kai did not respond for a long time.

Then Jiang Li with his long and slender fingers rhythmically tapped the keyboard and said: “Today I will not show YOU my X strength.”

Jiang Li: “I will show my X strength to your computer only.”

I did not react, Jiang Li reopened that black window, quickly tapped some keys on the keyboard.

 Then, from that black window a pile of symbols, completely undecipherable to me, jumped out.

I really wanted to pretend as if I understood everything that’s why I decided to watch him patiently from the side. However it was regrettable that some of those symbols had hypnotic effect, I had looked at them barely for a moment but it was already getting hard for me to stifle back a yawn. It looked like they had similar effect on Jiang Li as well but he was unable to hold back his yawn. Thus I went to the kitchen to brew a cup of coffee for him, as a token of gratitude.

Restarting the laptop Jiang Li took the coffee mug and casually spoke: “Your laptop is really worn out.”

I thought he had lost to Wang Kai so he was giving such excuses. I retorted back: “If you are not competent enough then say so, don’t put blame on my laptop. It’s not that old.” But it was indeed old, very old, in fact million years old!!

Jiang Li leisurely leaned back on the sofa and said: “Tomorrow make something delicious for me.”

Oh my goodness, his shamelessness was really boundless. Even though he was defeated he still had the nerve to ask for a reward?

By this time, the computer had restarted. Jiang Li shifted back to his original position and said: “the other side can only reinstall the whole system.”

With my eyes flashing like two stars (revering look reserved only for my idols) I looked at Jiang Li and exclaimed: “So you are really a software engineer, no wonder you are so strong.”

Rubbing the coffee mug in his hand, Jiang Li said: “used to be.”

Inquisitively, I asked: “you have changed your domain? So what do you do now?”

“Now I can do anything.” Jiang Li replied very arrogantly. Looking down at the coffee mug in his hand, he frowned: “At such ungodly hour why did you pour me a cup of coffee, to do what?”

Eh, it was way beyond my sleeping time and I was really tired but I still brewed coffee for him in order to refresh him. But this man’s attitude was extremely bad. Instead of thanking me he only knew how to utter nonsense!

Before I could answer his question, he drank his coffee and then frowned deeper: “this tastes really strange. From next time onward don’t make it with so much haste.”

Oh God, for the first time in my life I really wanted to punch someone hard on face!!!!

When I went to bed at night, I got a message from Wang Kai.  The entire message was full of ellipsis. Since I was feeling full of arrogance, I wanted to show off my cool side to him, so I smiled and texted back: ‘you are really affected by the whole ordeal. It can’t be helped; you need to fight a few more of such face-off rounds in order to get habitual of losing to Jiang Li.’

Wang Kai sent me a blank emoticon and then started neglecting me completely. He did not talk to me for the whole vacation. I thought getting defeated by Jiang Li must have injured his self-esteem deeply…….Aiya, he asked for it.

Although I usually scorned Wang Kai’s actions but this time his words were not unreasonable. After all the October Holidays* comes only once an year and spending everyday alone at home was very boring. So I decided to go out for some jaunting.

*National Day holidays come in the month of October (1st Oct.)

Going out alone would be boring but going out with Jiang Li would be extremely boring. Plus, there was a high risk of getting bullied by him, He Zhi and her boyfriend were hitting off very nicely, they did not have time to accompany me. Wang Kai…..this fellow just faced a brutal loss at Jiang Li’s hands, so I did not have the nerve to go and look for him. Moreover this guy had always loved the company of beautiful women so why would he spend these long holidays only with the ‘old me’?

Well, there was still hope, my mother.  One must respect and honor their elders so I decided to spend these hard-to-get holidays with her.

My mother thought that once again I had fought with Jiang Li, I tried to explain for a very long time but she did not believe me. Then she reluctantly (pretending to be reluctant) agreed to come along with me to the farm house on the city outskirt for a short trip…..this old woman was really pesky.

This farm house was a very good place, extremely beautiful scenery and scrumptious food mainly due to the freshness of the ingredients.

Although my mother had a crazy personality but still there was one good trait. Her hobby that was completely inconsistent with her character- Fishing. Earlier I could never understand why did she like fishing so much, since this activity required a lot of patience. Later on, when I followed her on her fishing excursions for a couple of times then I figured out what she truly liked was chatting while fishing.  On several occasions, she was simply interested in talking to me without any care about hooking the fishes; until I reminded her then she would leisurely lift the fishing rod and replace the bait.

In short, it could be said that rather than fishing her hobby was to feed fishes.

On our second day at the farm house my mother could not hold any longer and asked me to accompany her for fishing. I obediently complied with her orders.

It was already autumn, on that day the weather was pretty good. With invigorating autumn air and clear lake I was feeling completely relaxed. Suddenly I thought that I should come out on such outdoor activities more frequently, always staying at home would only make me feel moldy.

My mother sat on a boulder, put on fishing bait on the rod and then threw the rod a few times. In such a grand way she began her fishing.

A moment later, she turned towards me, as if she wanted to say something but then she hesitated.

Strange, was there anything that even my mother found hard to talk about? Instantly I got curious and asked: “Mom, do you want to pee?”

“Ugh” my mother coughed a few times to hide her embarrassment and then said: “Xiao Yan, I want to tell you something.”

Me: “what?”

My mother said: “a few days ago your father came to meet me.”

I frowned: “Then what, did you knock out his teeth or not?”

My mother helplessly shook her head and said: “He is your father after all, why do you hate him so much?”

Me: “So you don’t hate him?”

My mother reverted back to her usual crazy-self and sighed: “Whatever happened is history, I don’t have the strength to hate him anymore.”

Me: “but he betrayed you.”

My mother did not answer but asked: “do you still hate Yu Zhi Fei?”

Yu Zhi Fei? Hearing his name I got a little upset. I did not want to see him, did not want to even mention his name but did I hate him?

Upon seeing my reaction, my mother said: “you see, you have also let go of Yu Zhi Fei. This world is full of things to love as compared to a few detestable things. All of us should live each and every day of our lives earnestly.”

I raised my head and said: “Who said anything about letting Yu Zhi Fei go? I hate him; I hate all those people who have abandoned me!!”

Her hands, which were holding fishing rod, trembled a bit. She said: “Xiao Yan ah, child you are too extreme. You should know that a person’s happiness is not determined by how others treat him but it is determined by how he treats the world.”

I silently looked down.

My mother added: “Silly child, only after letting others go you can release yourself from unnecessary reins.”

FLASH MARRIAGE-21.1

FYI people, Not only this book has quite a large number of chapters but these chapters are decently lengthy as well, Thus rather than translating the whole bulk I do it chunk by chunk. Usually I split these chapters into two or three parts on the basis of the number of characters (Chinese alphabets) present in each unit.

Do let me know your thoughts about the title of this chapter. Personally I think that mos of these titles are misleading, like the title of the last chapter 'Emotional Wang Kai' :D

Chapter 21.1

Jiang Li Vs Wang Kai

After my last encounter with Feng Xue Yun in the cafeteria, I never saw him there again. According to Wang Kai, that beauty did not like being noticed, hated crowded places that’s why he avoided eating lunch at the company’s cafeteria. Since Wang Kai’s father and Feng Xue Yun’s father were both biggest shareholders of the Southern Star group so both of them could be considered good acquaintances. Hence the credibility of Wang Kai’s words was pretty high.

Since then I met Feng Xue Yun only once, needless to say this ‘coincidental’ meeting did not happen in the cafeteria. One morning, when I hurriedly boarded the office elevator while mentally making a resolution to get up five minutes early from next day onward, I found out that Feng Xue Yun was already inside that elevator.   He looked at me as if he was looking at a stranger with a totally deadpan expressions. In my heart I sighed darkly. It looked like Jiang Li did a good job with his ‘explanation’ to the beauty, I was somewhat relieved……Anyway a deadpan face was lot better than a face with too many distressing emotions.

Although I really liked handsome guys but I knew this explicitly that some handsome guys were beyond my reach such as Wang Kai, such as Feng Xue Yun and another example Jiang Li. Then I sadly realized the painful fact that around me there was no shortage of handsome guys, only a normal guy was missing…….

Because they were abnormal thus it was normal for abnormal things to happen, such as this evening.

National day vacation had always been a blissful period. Like always I decided to spend these rare holidays at home leisurely. Therefore there was no running round to anywhere. On the other hand
Jiang Li would vanish every day in the morning only to return at night for dinner.

That night, I was sitting in the living room and surfing internet, when suddenly a black window popped up on my laptop screen. Surely almost everyone must be familiar with such kind of incidents.

My laptop, a thousand year old machine, worked a bit stiffly and rarely hanged as well. I thought it was just one of those times when the laptop would slowly froze so I was about to shut down when an unexpected thing happened.

In the black window on the laptop screen a few words appeared: Xiao Guan Yan?

At that time I had already started losing focus and thought what kind of dramatic scene was unfolding now? Was the laptop, that had lived for thousands years with me, finally calling my name? So I excitedly called Jiang Li: “Jiang Li, come and see world’s most advanced laptop with the top artificial intelligence….”

Jiang Li came from behind, glanced at the screen then looked at me like a complete idiot, said: “your system has been hacked.”

Well, since I was a computer-idiot so for this kind of thing I neither had any experience nor had any thought about such a mysterious topic like Hacking.

And because I was a computer-idiot, so I always admired hackers, that’s why at the moment I was in awe. With trembling fingers I typed in that black window: “May I dare to ask the grand expert how you did this?”

The opponent typed back: “I did not expect that it was going to be that easy to hack your computer. Fortunately I am a man with a strong moral character so I did not play much with the settings of your system.”

I was a little annoyed: “what do you want?”

The opponent: “Just want to revive your memory; you probably don’t even remember me anymore? I don’t know why you have been holed up in your home for the past few days but tomorrow we are going out for hiking, okay?”

After listening to this nonsensical and long winded way of speaking, only one image conjured up in my mind, Wang Kai’s. So regaining my composure, I inquired: “you are not Wang Kai, are you?”

The other side: “You finally got it, Xiao Yan. It seems you are getting smarter these days. Tomorrow I will reward you with a hug!!”

I repressed the rising anger in my heart and typed: “It’s getting boring. Will you stop bothering me and get out of my laptop now.”

Wang Kai: “Tomorrow come with me for hiking, if you do that I will return your laptop settings back to the normal.”

Chapter 20.2

The Emotional side of Jiang Li (2)

Wang Kai chuckled a bit and was about to say something but I interrupted him again: “When the two men are together then also they can only talk about bed, right?”

Wang Kai with his eyes, wide-opened with fear, looked at me; trembling like a little bird he put ‘his’ peeled shrimp in my bowl.  

Now I was burning with humiliation, oh mother, oh grandmother, what the heck did I just say?………ah, ah, aah, under Jiang Li’s influence my opinion about the world had also become perverted!

I was thinking about what to say in order to restore my image, inadvertently I glanced at the cafeteria’s entrance and saw a glimpse of a familiar figure. I became speechless from shock.

Wang Kai waved his hand in front of my face: “Xiao Yan, Idiot.”

I regained my spirit: “That, I wanted to ask you, are outsiders like employee’s family members, friends or relatives also allowed to come and eat in this cafeteria?” he was not an employee of this company so how could such kind of coincidence happen?

Wang Kai shook his head: “I don’t know for sure, perhaps not…why?”

I wordlessly stared at that slender silhouette in the distance, momentarily completely forgot Wang Kai.

Noticing my lack of reaction, Wang Kai also started looking in the same direction as me. Probably, he also saw that man. He chuckled darkly and said: “So, the red apricot tree is leaning over the garden wall* It’s not apricot tree’s problem but wall’s problem.”


*the red apricot tree leans over the garden wall or hóng xìng chū qiáng is a Chinese Idiom which means a wife having an illicit lover

I looked back at him: “What do you mean?”

Wang Kai smiled understandingly and said: “Do not even dream about it, you don’t stand a chance.”

I heard him but did not understand him.

Wang Kai turned around and motioned me to see that person in the distance: “you don’t match his taste. A petite and fragile man like him cannot devour a sturdy person like you; if you wish then you can annihilate me as much as you want.”

 I shook my head: “you are mistaken.”

Just then absentmindedly I saw that slender silhouette, that beautiful man, Jiang Li’s boyfriend (presumably he was). I had the privilege of meeting this pretty man some time ago. I met him on the evening of the day we registered our marriage, he was with Jiang Li. Now he was present here, was he here for an interview? I suddenly remembered when I told Jiang Li the name of my company, he said it sounded familiar. So this beautiful man wanted to work in this company, no wonder, Jiang Li found the name of the company familiar.

I was still lost in my thoughts. Seemingly, that beautiful man must have felt that someone was watching him so he glanced towards our side. Briefly, I forgot to take my eyes off him.  He quickly crossed the sea of people in the cafeteria and then unexpectedly, he walked towards us.

Instantly, I became alert. What did he want to do? To provoke me? To create a scene in public?

Very quickly I came to know why this beauty approached me. The cause was very simple, his eyesight was not very good. When he was almost in front of my face, only then he was able to recognize me. Then the expressions on his face changed from doubt to…..disdain? disgust? Jealous? Anger?....In short very complicated, very tangled but one thing was clear that this beauty was certainly very distressed.

So I looked at him and smiled weakly. According to the eye witness, Wang Kai my so called ‘weak smile’ was more like an ugly cry, a very unsightly expression. It was unavoidable, after all, I was his boyfriend’s wife, yikes, even this sentence was very erratic.

The beauty ignored my goodwill, sneered and walked away.

I could only continue eating my lunch. Anyways, that beautiful guy truly despised me so I had to get accustomed to it.

Wang Kai excitedly asked: “What happened? Earlier, it appeared that you two knew each other.”

It looked like that the rich people’s children, beautiful or not, also had it tough. They also had responsibilities but seemingly heavier.

Considering there was a second so there must be a first too. Thus like any other normal person I also got curious about it and asked: “So who is the biggest shareholder?”

Wang Kai’s hand came towards my bowl to pick back ‘his’ peeled shrimp and casually replied: “He is my father.”

Through Wang Kai I came to know that the beauty was called Feng Xue Yun. I felt that Wang Kai knew Feng Xue Yun was gay but he did not want to reveal other people’s private matters and so was faltering to talk about it. I audaciously told him that I had seen that beauty’s eyes, hence I knew he was gay……Since then Wang Kai was firmly convinced that I was a rotten woman because I could not gather the courage to explain him the whole situation clearly. Anyways, things had come to this level, so even if I had tried to elucidate he would not have believed it. That I was really, truly not a rotten woman*


*For those who are still not clear about this “rotten woman’ thing it’s another name for Fujoshi. “Fujoshi” is a self-mockingly pejorative Japanese term for female fans of manga and novels that feature romantic relationships between men.

In the evening, after dinner I decided to talk to Jiang Li about his little snobby beauty, Feng Xue Yun. Why was this fellow so hostile towards me? He surely must have known that there was nothing between Jiang Li and me, right?

So once Jiang Li’s mood elevated after filling his stomach to the brim, I asked: “Ah, Jiang Li, do you know whom did I meet at work today?”

FLASH MARRIAGE-20.1

Dear peeps, thank you for your warm wishes but it turns out what I thought was a common flu was instead a severe viral infection. And as if that's not enough from God knows where I have caught UTI also. I had to spend the entire Thanksgiving holidays in bed only. :(
As, I am still recovering, my work's not very prompt but I am still gonna try my best..:)

Some of you may find the ending of this post too abrupt, well that's bcz it is abrupt since I am feeling too sleepy at the moment (due to the strong antibiotics for UTI) and can't continue any further. I guess nap time is up.....Zzzzzz

 Chapter 20.1

The Emotional Issues Of Jiang Li   (1)

I did not know what evil had hit Wang Kai, but suddenly he became very enthusiastic about cafeteria food. So, every day at noon he would drag me to the staff cafeteria and happily ate his lunch there.

Anyways, it did not matter to me, as long as the food was hygienic enough to eat.  After all, no food could be as delicious as the food cooked by my mother.

Since we were coming to the cafeteria almost every day so the other employees were no longer staring at Wang Kai, as if they were looking at an alien. Except for the sharp and resentful gazes of some female employees pointed at me.

Holding a tray full of shrimps Wang Kai sat beside me: “Secretary Guan, aren’t you my private secretary?”

The corners of my mouth twitched a little, it was such a redundant question. Otherwise why else would he address me as ‘secretary Guan.’

Wang Kai pushed his tray of shrimps in front of me, smiled and said: “Well, then peel these shrimps for me?”

I ignored that extremely appetizing plate of shrimps and said: “I am your secretary, not servant.”

Unexpectedly, Wang Kai in a very soft voice said: “Good Xiao Yan, peel it for me!”

I felt nauseated and seriously wanted to remind him that he was simply too old to act so childishly.

But considering his abnormal personality and thick-skin, I presumed he would not care about my words, so raising my eyebrow, I fiercely said: “You don’t have your own hands?”

Wang Kai did not mind a bit, picked up a shrimp and smiled: “Here, I will give you one to peel.”

Wang Kai was one of those people who’re not fond of speaking truth, but the sentence he repeatedly used to speak earlier was quite true, his favorite phrase ‘energetic man.’ Even for a simple meal he came up with so many tricks, for sure, his brain was brimming with too much energy.

I thought this person was slovenly which he certainly was, when the work was light but who knew he would actually be this capable. Not only was he able to do his share of work fairly but also many at times when as his secretary I sent the mails without careful consideration, he discovered and corrected them easily. Company employees really admired him although there were many people who did not like him such as those male staff members who could not find girlfriends and the women who had lost their virginity to him {okay I must tell that even though I too did not like him but I did not lose my virginity to him, it’s just that I did not like his teasing)

Now I started peeling the shrimp with my fingers, sighed and said: “You are really too bored.”

Wang Kai proudly said: “What are you so unsatisfied with. Do you know how many women here want me to give them these shrimps to peel, forget about peeling shrimps, they are willing to peel off their clothes too……..”

“Stop. stop.” Embarrassed, I coughed for a couple of minutes, “how can you wander off to such kind of topic?” this could only mean that he started the whole thing for this only…..

Wang Kai added further to my dissatisfaction by displaying his disdain attitude: “We are all adults here; you don’t need to pretend to be so pure in front of me. Furthermore, you are already married but then again the perverted man you are married to is just useless.”

I frowned and retorted: “Didn’t you say that you are a man of boundless charms with a lot of girlfriends? Ever since I have started working here as your secretary, I have never seen a single woman around you. Apparently, for a handsome guys like you it’s alright to brag, hmm?”

Wang Kai in a very natural tone said: “I have reached my saturation level.  Anyways, girls are too turbulent and I want to lead a quiet life for a few days.”

I nonchalantly said: “Haah, keep continuing your fabrications.”

Wang Kai: “You still don’t believe my charms, ah, it’s true I used to stay in my bed with….”

I waved my hand and interrupted his words and asked: “other than these things, can’t you talk about something else?”

Wang Kai with his ‘innocent face’ replied: “When a man and a woman are together, other than bed, what else can they talk about?”

I did not have enough words to rebuke him: “How can you say such shameless words!!”

Wang Kai chuckled a bit and was about to say something but I interrupted him again: “When the two men are together then also they can only talk about bed?”

Wang Kai with his eyes, wide-opened with fear, looked at me; trembling like a little bird he put the peeled shrimp in my bowl.



  

FLASH MARRIAGE-19.2

Hey everyone, I am down with flu these days thus was not able to roll out this post on time. Let me tell you guys cold is the most irritating disease to catch. You get itchy n running nose, headache, fatigue and what not...feeling so awful.
A forewarning: the following chapter is not edited thoroughly thus there can be some mistakes.
Hopefully, I will be able to release next chapter as per the schedule (which is around Sunday)

Chapter 19.2 

  The bedroom murder

Jiang Li and my mother were completely in sync with each other, she was behaving as if he was her biological son whereas the poor I, was being ill-treated and tortured by these two vicious people, where’s the justice in this world!!!

At noon, when my mom was cooking food for lunch I took the opportunity to say: “Mom, Jiang Li loves spicy food. The spicier, the better.”

She looked at me with disdain and said: “I had asked him earlier and he said that other than spicy food he can eat anything.”

Realizing that my little scheme had failed, I immediately left the territory. Anyways, considering how Jiang Li and my mother had joined hands it’s almost impossible to take advantage of any loop hole.

Naturally, just the thought of this evil combination of ‘mother-son’ was enough to make me feel depressed. And at night during dinner one more disturbing element came to increase my suffering-my mother’s daughter.

My sister that is ‘my mother’s daughter’ and my mother did not share any blood ties but the key point was that this D-cup girl, He Zhi, was without any doubt my mother’s daughter.

As a daughter I was being constantly scolded by mother, as a sister I was scorned by my sister and as a wife I was being trampled down by my husband. Now, I really had a good reason to believe that I was seriously given a wrong script for the play called ‘life’!!!

Anyway, this dinner was a hit; both the guests and hosts were thoroughly enjoying themselves. Two people were castigating, the third one was silently watching while the fourth one quietly shed tears in her heart…….I finally made a very wise decision that was : Never offend Jiang Li and even if I somehow offend him then must not let these two heartless lunatics enjoy at my expense……

After dinner, Jiang Li took my hand, hastily bid goodbye to mom and He Zhi, then put me in the car and sped away.

I obediently sat in the car, without uttering a word.

Jiang Li looked at me from the rear mirror and asked: “Are you still angry?”

I snapped back: “nonsense, why don’t you try and see how it feels when you are alienated by your own family and friends.”

Jiang Li: “I did not know that the whole matter will take such a serious turn, I just wanted to meet your mother and say hello.”

I shook my head and feebly said: “There is no need for such pretensions anymore, you calculated everything really well.”

Jiang Li with a somewhat innocent look said: “I just wanted to give you some face, wanted to see a fresh expression on your face for a change. Who knew you would refuse even this little humility.”

No red face, no breathlessness, such shameless attitude. It seemed the thickness of Jiang Li’s skin had reached the same level as my mother.

Jiang Li who now was relatively timid because of his sinister deeds, decided to compromise first:
“Well, in the future don’t talk about the topic of separation so casually.”

In a bit conciliatory tone I said: “It was you who talked about separation.”

Jiang Li added: “Later you can’t starve me to death.”

Me: “First of all, you know that you won’t die so easily.”

After a while, Jiang Li opened his mouth again: “Where is your office? If it’s on the way, I can pick you up daily.”

I assessed him skeptically: “Why are you trying to be so nice to me?”

Jiang Li bluntly spoke: “I have no confidence in your character.” Perhaps this snippersnapper was still afraid that I wouldn’t cook for him daily.

I had to tell him my office address.

After listening to my words Jiang Li was a little dazed. Bored with his reaction, I asked: “So? Is it far from your office?”

“No” Shaking his head, Jiang Li said: “it just sounds somewhat familiar.”

The reputation of XXX advertising company was quite high in the industry so I did not find it strange that Jiang Li was familiar with it, thus I did not think much about it.

However, very soon, I came to know about the meaning behind this so called ‘familiar.’

FLASH MARRIAGE-19.1

Hii...Quite a lot of readers have asked me this question that how do I do these translations considering my zero percent competency in the Chinese language. As per the comments, some of you have tried to google translate the book on your own also but found it too confounding. I can feel your pain though. Since a couple of years ago I had also tried to read one or two C-novels using the same approach but always felt as Alice from Alice in wonderland. So today I thought I will brief you guys about my translating ordeal.   

First of all let me make something clear to everyone. When we say a book is machine translated & edited doesn't mean that you can just google translate the book, do some grammatical editing and then copy-paste the text. Nah. because that way the result will be completely indecipherable let alone enjoyable. I start this mundane process by using two different translating tools, then I read, read and re-read the mumbo-jumbo these machine translators spew till I come up with a somewhat sensible and readable work. Post that I compare and evaluate both the translated works of the same chapter to see if there is anything (be it a dialogue or an emotion or a simple gesture) missing.  After making a final rough draft, which is basically formed after conjugating the two translations, I type the whole thing in my own words and insert some pictures. That's the reason I always call this project my own rendition of the novel. By the time the chapter becomes publishable, I get too tired to do the final check and thus would almost always publish it without doing any proofreading. So kindly pardon all my grammatical errors in the past or current posts.

Though not as laborious as the real C-to-E translators but my job is still a little onerous thus whenever I read your kind words and comments it truly rejuvenates me. So, once again a big Thank You to all you wonderful readers and commentators. 

Chapter 19.1

The Bedroom Murder (1)

In order to remain true to my ‘struggle’ against Jiang Li’s exploitation, I secretly sent him a text message: “You don’t have to come tomorrow; I will not be at my mother’s place.” For the victory of proletarian revolution, telling occasional lies is essential.

A moment later, Jiang Li replied: “You indeed are very bad at the language. Actually, I could sense the vulnerability in your first sentence itself.”

I supposed that he was trying to probe deeper: “You can believe whatever you want to believe.”

Jiang Li: “Well, I will still drop by your mother’s house tomorrow to say hello.”

Me: “My mother does not like you.”

Jiang Li: “Then, I have all the more reason to curry favor with her.”

Me: “Hey, I am really not there.”

Jiang Li: “No problem, I will see it with my own eyes when I will go there tomorrow.”

Me: “Don’t force me.”

Jiang Li: “I am too lazy to force you but if you don’t want to worry your mother unnecessarily then you know where you should be tomorrow.”

Jiang Li could breakthrough in any fight against others only with his words, a really frightening ability. I looked at his alarming yet short text message and decided to compromise…..and ladies, I honestly advise you to never marry a too smart guy otherwise in the future you will be played around till you die!

The next day which was a Saturday morning I was sleeping soundly in my mother’s bed while she was already up. Suddenly, the old lady with an iron like grip shook me up, saying: “daughter, Jiang Li is here.”

I somehow made a consenting sound, leaned down and continued to sleep. There’re so many strange people in this world such as my mother and Jiang Li, weekends are supposed to sleep in till late, why did they get up so early!!

With my eyes still closed, I heard my mother’s “You should wake her up now.” and then she went out. I silently shed tears in my heart….

Jiang Li standing by my bed, called: “Xiao Guan Yan.”

I was feeling very sleepy and wanted to sleep more so I did not bother and just ignored him. After grunting a bit, twisting and turning in the bed; holding the blanket I went back to sleep.

Jiang Li in a threatening tone said: “If you do not get up immediately, I will strip off your clothes.”

How dare he! This was my turf! I racked my sleepy and dull brain to think about the probability of his attack and finally concluded that it was zero. Just now, he must be teasing me. He would not dare to assault his wife at her mother’s home, would he? With this thought, I intended to sleep at ease again.

Who knew that Jiang Li would not only remove my blanket but would also put his hand on my shoulder!!1 I quickly turned around, as if I was electrocuted, and shrugged off his hand. Then fiercely glared at him: “What are you doing?” Oh God, I was being bullied in my own territory.

Jiang Li with his arms crossed a trace of complacency floating on his face, bowed his head down a bit and raised his eyebrow: “What did I do?”

I picked up a teddy bear from the bedside, tossed it towards his face and fiercely yelled: “Get out!”

Jiang Li swiftly caught the teddy bear and then very naturally sat down beside me on the bed. He stared at me for a moment then suddenly as if he was in a very low spirit said: “My wife, please don’t be angry with me anymore, okay?”

I almost thought that I had misheard, was he….he mentally defected, ah? Although Jiang Li spoke such words with a deadpan expression but his voice, that voice just like his handsome and gentle face was deadly.

Jiang Li tossed me a glance, and then his lips curled up slightly; it seemed as if he was waiting for an upcoming joke. This certainly did not look good, it was foreboding.

Oh God, the rabbit was anxious to bite the bait and the tiger was waiting patiently for him to take the bait, was he playing ‘Hello kitty’ game with me? Anger rose from my heart and engulfed my whole being; I pushed him on the bed, riding on his body I grasped his neck lightly and ferociously asked: “What the hell are you planning?”

Without any resistance, Jiang Li quietly let me torture him. I thought this was his way of repentance, thus I reduced the force with which I was holding his neck, and after all, murdering someone was a crime, so I decided to extend his dog life!


Naturally, I forgot one thing, did Jiang Li has any sense of morality? Just as I let my guard down, he surprised me with his actions. He caught hold of both my hands and after inhaling air deeply, in a horror filled voice said: “Help! Xiao Yan, are you going to murder your husband, ah?” as he finished saying so, he put my hands back on his neck.

I marveled at his act, completely flabbergasted. However at this moment, the door of the room abruptly opened with a ‘bang’, my mother who was standing in the doorway saw our little debauched but very violent scene.

Mother angrily marched in and separated me from Jiang Li. She knocked on the side of my head and heatedly said: “You damn girl, you did not understand anything from my yesterday’s lecture. You want to infuriate me to death, ah!”

I sat down on the bed enabling my mother to ravage me completely. Then I realized what just had happened. My mother must have been eavesdropping at the door, considering her wretched character; she was truly capable of doing such a despicable thing. Thus my mother overheard, which I did not know but Jiang Li knew so he allowed me to abuse him and then looked for the help at the exact right time so that I was caught red handed by my mother.

Jiang Li was such an evil guy! Now I truly wanted to break his head and pull out his pig brain from inside…..To see how his well-developed and evil brain could be so destructive.

Jiang Li rubbed his neck, looked at my mother, laughed a bit and said: “Mother, don’t blame Xiao Yan. She and I were just joking.”

My mother listened to his words, slapped my head and hotly said: “Joking? Is taking someone’s life a joke?”

I would endure!


Jiang Li raised his hand and patted the place on my head where my mother had just hit. Then, he pulled me in his arms: “Mother, you take a break, I will persuade her.”

My mother finally discerned that too much interference between a couple’s matters was not right. She had already committed a mistake by eavesdropping on our bedroom matters. She kindly smiled at Jiang Li and said: “then mother will leave her to you, if she does not listen to you then feel free to strangle her.” Saying so, she turned to leave.

I resentfully looked at her retreating back. After she closed the door, I pushed Jiang Li away and glowered at him.

Jiang Li innocently stared at me, whispered: “Who told you to not go back with me?”

In a fit of rage I kicked his foot: “Get out! This old woman here needs to change her clothes.”

FLASH MARRIAGE-18.2

Aloha peeps....Just came back from a Halloween-bash. Just so you know, I went there as a dragon-mom. And now you might think how can one get dressed as dragon-mom well it's simple wear a green tube dress with red pumps, throw in a cute dragon ear cuff and hold a dragon-egg (in my case it was my one year old son in a dragon costume) & Tadah....You are done!!!! hahaha...

It was not exactly a 'good costume' for Halloween, my first choice was to go as maleficious but I could not find the right dress & with the baby and all it was kind of difficult to arrange everything. So, I just made use of whatever was available at home without buying a single thing. And  somehow unexpectedly, we never had to tell anyone exactly what we were supposedly dressed as (Phew....)
We, the mother-son duo (father aka my hubby went as himself + devil ears), got loads of compliments which totally made my day...ah night. So I decided to share my happiness with you guys by presenting you the rest of chapter 18. Read it and enjoy & don't forget to comment because I love to read them..

Chapter 18.2

The Fight (2)

When I returned home, my mother was glued to the TV in the living room. When she saw me there, the first thing she did was pinch her thigh to make sure that she was not disillusioned then sprang up from the sofa and rushed towards me with gleaming eyes: “this girl…why did you come without telling me first?”

I smiled and said: “I just wanted to surprise you.”

We, mother and daughter, had not seen each other for about one month so ideally we should have first hugged and then asked about each other’s well-being. Of course this scenario was apt only for an ordinary family and my mother was far from being normal or ordinary.

After an emotional moment, she again sat back on the sofa. While completely neglecting her daughter she restarted watching TV. Oh God, she was such a heartless mother.

Resentfully, I walked over and sat beside her and pulled her arm like a baby, I whined: “Mom, are you not happy that I am back?”

Exposing my true intention in one sentence she said: “you heartless girl, if not due to your and Jiang Li’s fight, will you still have come here?”

I exclaimed internally how come all of a sudden my mother was possessed by Zhuge Liang* but I was more or less guilty of the crime.  These past few days had been very chaotic for me since I was really busy with job-hunting, did not find even a little bit of time to visit my mother for a while. Oh God, I was truly reprehensible! Children must not learn from me, I did not have filial piety; I had become a villain in my own eyes……

*Zhuge Liang: A highly intelligent man who was an accomplished military strategist, statesman, scholar & inventor in the Three Kingdom Period. 



My mother finally pulled away her eyes from TV to look at me, rubbed my head a bit and said: “So, what happened between you and Jiang Li?”

I tried to play dumb: “Everything is fine between us. I just wanted to give you a surprise visit. Why are you asking……”

Suddenly, my mother lightly knocked my head to express her doubt about my words. Then she said: “Xiao Yan, you are still too young to fool your mother.” Gee, even her posture resembled that of a triad boss.


I finally realized that my normally crazy mother knew me really well and she could see my heart like a mirror, crystal clear!

I was thinking about how to explain the whole matter to my mother and at the same time create a heinous image of Jiang Li in mother’s eyes, when home phone rang. My mother left me to pick up the phone.

Then, I sadly noticed that the phone call was from Jiang Li. If this wicked guy had called to complain about me then my old lady was going to denounce me.

There was such a stark contrast between her attitude towards me and towards Jiang Li; it made me wonder once again, whether this old lady and I truly shared the same DNA or not? At this moment, she was smiling and chatting pleasantly with Jiang Li, occasionally interjecting one or two sentences like ‘I know that Xiao Yan is over pampered and naive, she does not understand.’ ‘Tomorrow I will send her back to apologize to you.’ on and so on. Should a real blood mother use such kind of words for her only child……

My mother hung up the phone and turned to reinstate my ideological education. From how difficult it is for a mother to give birth to a child, to how we only get one life to live so we must cherish all the happiness regardless of circumstances, then how lonely her precious son-in-law must be feeling at the moment and then she went through all the big and small mistakes, every single of them, that I had committed in the last twenty years followed up by exchanging views (Of course, it was only her opinion) about the reason behind mine and Jiang Li’s fight. Finally she reached the conclusion:  Xiao Guan Yan, you really deserve to be thrashed!

I felt like an ashen cactus plant, shrunk in the corner of the sofa, enjoying the watering from my mother’s mouth. Of course cactus, good or bad, is prickly so I also fought back: “Mom, it takes two to tango, Jiang Li is also wrong.”

My mother said: “when a person is attacked, it’s only justified to fight back or else should he wait till he is beaten to death.”

Me: “He attacked me first, he threatened me.”

My mother: “Fortunately, there are some things with which he can threaten you; otherwise you intend to listen to Heavens only.”

Me: “Mom you have been deceived. Since he wickedly made the complaints first so you are prejudicially siding with him.*”

*Xiao yan wants to say that the first impression holds an important role. As the first person to make a complaint he has already ingrained his image as the victim in her mother’s mind which Xiao Yan is unable to change now with her words.




Mother: “Nonsense, when Jiang Li called he kept on apologizing to me, saying he did not take good care of you. So why is he wicked? I think the one who is whining and throwing weight around is you, you are wicked. You are a sinner…….”

 Me: ……………

Jiang Li had done a very good job as a villain and I had once again successfully failed.

Mother in law shared an unbreakable bond with son in law but the birth mother did not even trust her own daughter, this was such a human tragedy, ah!

My mother ultimately announced: “Jiang li will come tomorrow to pick you up.”

Aggrieved, I said: “I won’t go back.”

My mother nonchalantly said: “That will be all the more better. Tomorrow when he comes, he need not go as well then both of you can stay here with me.”

Me: !!!

As if falling was not enough, now I had to lie down flat as well.  I promptly thought of He Zhi.

Even my real mother did not want me. Would He Zhi be willing to take me in or not? I was wondering about it and then started imagining how I could express my misery very deeply and vividly in front of her, when my mobile rang.

Sure enough, twin hearts have telepathic connection. Just as I was thinking about calling her, she called me. I happily picked up the phone: “He Zhi, I was thinking about you only.”

He Zhi did not even acknowledge me and just started shouting from the other side: “Damn it, Xiao Yan, you still run away from home?”

Me: ????

Without any delay He Zhi started to preach me about my ’running away from home’ problem: “As a couple, whatever problem both of you have with each other, you should sit together and talk about them clearly. How can you think that running away from home will solve everything? I did not expect this from you.”

Me: “That is, how did you come to know..”

He Zhi: “Jiang Li was afraid if you were in any trouble or anything so he called me up to check if you’re with me or not.”

I sneered: “He has such a big mouth.”

He Zhi: “Shut up, he was really worried about you.”

Me: “so why didn’t he call me?”

Smirking, He Zhi said: “looks like you are simply jealous? Of course he will find it embarrassing to call you considering how you two had just quarreled. Well…See your husband is so concerned about you. What are you so unsatisfied with?” her last sentence was in a completely menacing tone.

I shivered…..concerned? He called to instigate everyone, right? My real mother, my best friend, he turned everyone against me, forcibly made me homeless so that I was left with no other choice but to return back to his home obediently! What a conniving jerk, this guy war really too bad!

In this chapter we get to see a different side of Xiao Guan Yan. She is not that mellow as she always portrays when need be she can be both assertive and fierce. What needs to be seen is Jiang Li's reaction after seeing this new face of Xiao Yan. Any guesses anyone.....

Since Wang Kai had helped me in finding this job I decided to invite him out for the dinner. He told me that there was this really good seafood restaurant nearby and then very eloquently added that eating fish was good for human brain.


I finally noticed that this guy Wang Kai, just as Jiang Li, liked to tease me for his pleasure.

Of course since I was a rather reserved person so wherever he asked me to go, I acquiesced.

Wang Kai drove me in his car in round-round circles, I could not help but feel dizzy, were we really looking for the restaurant or practicing some new martial art?.....when we finally saw the extremely humble facade of the restaurant, I truly felt like admiring Wang Kai, such a remote place, how did he manage to find it?

Wang Kai very frankly said: “I came here with one of my ex-girlfriends; the food was good so I remembered it.”

Like a proper listener I displayed the required curiosity: “You have already come here a few times?”

Wang Kai: “Once.

”
After coming here for just one time he already could remember the path, must say this guy’s sense of direction was not bad. If I was stranded here and left alone, I most certainly wouldn’t know how to go back on my own.

Then I asked him the second question in my mind: “Do you remember the name of the girlfriend with whom you came here?”

Wang Kai thought for a moment and finally shaking his head said: “I don’t remember.”

See, that’s the true face of this man. Such a complicated way he did not forget but could not even remember the name of the person he used to date!

Wang Kai as if he could see my thoughts smiled meaningfully and said:  "Since I like these women, I date them and when I date them its very peaceful and of course when I break up with them, that too is very amicable. I am sorry but not everyone in this world is as much emotional fool as you.”

I was stunned, did he call me foolish?

Wang Kai then glanced at me very intensely and said: “In fact women can also be promiscuous.”

I: ……..

I discovered that Wang Kai and I were indeed two different kind of animals with completely different brain structure, even the basic thinking process was not the same.

There was no use of discussing this issue any further so I decided to drop the topic. Anyways we were talking about male vs female’s philandering habits, it  had nothing to do with me and what was more important than this issue was food, so I must just eat!

Wang Kai had already recommended this restaurant for its good food. The only thing I did not understand was why such a good restaurant, had to be hidden between so many alleys and lanes.

I was just ordering some side dishes when my phone rang; it was a call from Jiang Li. I suddenly realized that this guy probably was still hungry….

So with a guilty conscious heart I picked up the phone.

From the other end Jiang Li very impatiently asked: “How come you are still not home?”

Although I was his wife cum chef cum nanny but I also had some self-respect. Thus, when he talked to me in such tone, I did not like it.  So using the similar impatient tone I said: “I am having dinner right now, you go and find something to eat on your own, okay?”

Jiang Li lost his temper: “You quickly come back to cook for me or else we will separate.”

This time I got quite angry. Jiang Li could slash a knife thousand times at me it was fine but just once I didn’t agree with him so he used ‘separation’ to blackmail me, too vile, too despicable, oh damn him and his entire family!

My temper was oppressed for so many days; my top was finally going to blow off but I still tried to control the anger in my heart, grinding my teeth I screeched into the cell phone: “If you want to separate then separate, this old lady is not afraid of you!” After saying this, without waiting for his reaction, I hung up the phone.

I was boiling with anger. Wang Kai had stopped eating his food and was staring at me. I snapped: “What are you looking at? Have you never seen a fight before?”

Wang Kai picked a piece of fish and put it in my bowl, smiled and said: “There is no need to get this much infuriated. Anyways a couple's quarrel should be resolved in their bed room and….”

“I never got along with him.” Once Jiang Li’s name was mentioned I could not help but feel frustrated and indignant. “From the first day of our marriage he has been bullying me. How could I be this unfortunate to get married to a guy like him, ah……”

Wang Kai very smoothly said: “Yeah, it was better to get married to me, right.”

I was not in the mood to joke around so after giving him a fierce glare I started eating. I don’t know about other people but I was the kind of person who would feel hungrier with growing anger. I had heard that some people don’t like to eat when they get angry, really amazing!

After dinner, Wang Kai offered me a ride back and I readily accepted his offer
since these alley and streets were not only as confusing as maze but did not have any cabs to hail.

Wang Kai: “Should I drop you at your home?”

I: “Yeah but to my mother’s home.”

CHAPTER 17.3

First day on the job (3)

I thought from all the angles and finally said: “Wang Kai…..Sorry, ah but can you give me any other position in the company?”

The gleeful expression in his eyes resembled that of a little girl ready to plan her next mischief. Of course I knew that there was nothing else but his own beauty to blame for this. I must say that there are very few men in this world who are actually very pretty from the outside but wretched from the inside and Wang Kai was one of them.

Now Wang Kai looked at me smilingly and said: "Why are you trying to avoid me Yan Yan, are you scared that you won’t be able to stand and give into the temptation of my charm?”

The way he said those words it felt like as if I was a monster and he was some monster slayer. Before I could refute his words, I heard him saying: “I invited you to work here so what nonsense are you thinking, huh?”

From his expression while saying these words, I really could not decipher if he was pretending to be serious or was truly serious but when I thought of his theory ‘figured it out’ in Maldives, I immediately felt relieved. Seeing how this wretched Wang Kai had such sunny disposition towards his professional life, my eyes lit with admiration.

So I put away all the suspicious thoughts from my mind and said: “Boss Wang, Your secretary will be in your care.”

Wang Kai chuckled to himself. Looking very pleased and satisfied he nodded his head.

Shamelessly speaking since morning I felt that this secretary job was not so bad.

In fact doing a good job as secretary was not too difficult. Of course if you wanted to do a really very good job as a secretary then it was a different story. I had always been a very unambitious person who could do almost everything in life with a very unpromising approach. In my eyes a good secretary just concentrates on her job, listens and obeys her leader’s words and has a little or some observing skills. As for the difficult and demanding problems, Wang Kai should be able to fix them. Frankly speaking, people like me are born to goof. Remembering the talk I had with Jiang Li in the morning about women empowerment I felt ashamed.

Very quickly noon arrived, the most important appointment of the day, lunch break.

XXX Advertising Company had an inbuilt cafeteria for employees, according to what Wang Kai said, the cafeteria’s food taste was not bad. So in order to welcome his new employee to the company he invited me to the lunch. Each of us ordered some meat and vegetable dishes then found a good place to sit. I felt odd to find so many strangers looking at us from all the directions; of course I was a nobody so the target of their stare must be Wang Kai.

I got curious thus asked him: "Why is everyone looking at you? Are you an alien?”

Wang Kai laughed: "Probably because I am too handsome.”

I had already seen the level of Wang Kai’s shamelessness so neglecting his words I again asked him: “Why are even men also looking at you? Is this company a headquarter of gay people?”

Wang Kai pulled out a wry smile on his face: “I really don’t understand why you rotten women find the topic of homosexuality so interesting."

Had already said many times, I was not a rotten woman!

To avoid suspicion, Wang Kai went on to explain: “I rarely come here to eat, since I came today so they must be wondering about it.”

‘So where do you usually go to eat lunch?’ I thought of raising this question but I was sure this guy would reply something like this ‘I make a special trip to a beautiful woman’s office’ aaah, so I swallowed back my words……

I clipped a piece of meat and put it in my mouth, nipped it, the taste was okay.

Wang Kai did not even lift his chopsticks and was just staring at me, asked: “well, how’s it? Taste is not bad, right?”

“It’s edible but is far worse than what I cook.” I admit I was bragging.  In fact the difference was not that wide, the rice dishes I cooked was almost at the same level as the restaurant’s rice dishes. Anyway it was just a joke; Wang Kai would not believe my words.

Truthfully it was not right to be arrogant in front of one’s boss, but I hardly saw Wang Kai as my boss. Initially he was my online friend, then he became a bad company during my vacation in Maldives and now he was my boss. I thought I must change my attitude towards him. It might be a possibility that even though he was my friend, he wanted to act as my superior in front of the others and wanted me to behave accordingly in public, ah I was really bad at acting. So even if he wanted to put on a show in front of others I would not be able to do so. Thus it was better to forget about our encounter in Maldives, treat him as a new acquaintance from now on and eventually I would get used to it.

Originally I thought Wang Kai would not hesitate to retort back but never imagined him to smile softly and calmly: “Do you really want me to try the food you cook.”

Huh, it’s you who wants to eat; who’s going to cook for you. One guy Jiang Li was enough to torture me if one more guy, Wang Kai’s, added then I would not able to survive.

When Wang Kai found no response from my side, he asked: “Your husband must be enjoying the food you cook daily? In fact he must have become a gastronome by now.”

Internally I was very pleased with his flattery and said: “Whether I wish to or not but he coaxes me to cook for him.”

Wang Kai got very excited and further inquired: “So how does he coax you?”

I really could not tell people that I cooked food for Jiang Li on the condition that in return he would sleep with me. Naturally if you put these words in someone’s head, especially in Wang Kai’s head, then they would surely become perverted.

So I just changed the topic: “Wang Kai why did your previous secretary leave? You did not bully her, right?”

Wang Kai shook his head a little, said: “I fired her."

Oh God, it seemed I asked a question I should not have asked, so I mutely continued eating my lunch.

Then Wang Kai spoke one sentence that almost choked me to death. He said: “Having a beautiful secretary affects my work.”

Thus he began to search for an ugly person? Then he found me? Oh God how could you create such a useless creature!

Flash Marriage-17.2

The following post is really short as compared to my previous ones, but I promise that you will get to read the rest of this chapter really soon.
On a separate note has any of you started watching 'Love me if you dare' Is it good? Worth giving a chance or not? Please tell as I have a time crunch and can't waste on things which can be procrastinated.  So if its any good I would immediately go and watch it, otherwise it will have to wait since I have a long list of books, dramas and movies to cover up first. First day on the job (2)

Wang Kai leaned over his chair, leisurely said: "Secretary Yan, you lack sickness since we last parted.*”

*you are looking as healthy as ever, nice to see you again.

My brain cells finally kicked in, Wang Kai was the vice president or was he? So he was not the HR head? No wonder he was in such a hurry to log out last night. He must be afraid of the situation where I might ask him the name of the Vice president. It’s really strange, how could I be this stupid, eh…..

Now Wang Kai was watching my expressions with great interest and found my reaction very satisfactory.

I really wanted to pluck out all his blond dyed hair, ah, if for one day he does not make fun of me, would he die?

Wang Kai overlooking my dissatisfaction, with a serious face smiled and calmly said: “You know I did not plan to surprise you.”

I suppressed all my anger in my heart, said: "So why did you lie?"

"I did not." Wang Kai looked very innocently at me, that fake hurt look in his eyes could really boil people with anger.

I was just about to question him that why did he impersonate as HR head then suddenly realized that he neither acknowledged nor denied my words earlier, so I just assumed him to be……..and he simply took advantage of the situation and teased me back.

Okay, I must admit it was all because of my stupidity.

But was Wang Kai my boss now? I felt very awkward about this. Boss should be revered from a distance, but earlier if you were close enough with your boss to play Daguai Luzi* together, how could you treat him with reverence now? Be chummy again? I did not like it. Maintain a decent distance? I could not do it.

 * Daguai Luzi is a card game in the genre of shedding and gambling. It is one of the most popular card games played in China.
